96 different shark species swam in Cretaceous European seas

    They were apparently the same as those in the Western Interior Sea (in what would one day become North America), with Cretoxyrhina being the largest and others such as Scaphanorhynchus and Squalicorax also present, yet 18 new species were also identified:
