Wine storage

My wife is a wine lover. There is around 6 bottles consumed a week between the both of us.
Now I like it but she is the real lover of red .

She has started buying 50euro plus bottles of wine for what she calls "special occasions and has 3 expensive bottles stashed away in a closet up stairs.

From what I have been reading. They could be damaged by room temperature.

With 160 euro worth of quality stuff already, I think it may be a good idea to store it correctly.

I have seen a cheap little fridge in argos that will chill the wine between 7 -18 degrees. Its only 60 euro and has an A rating for electricity consumption. With a 15 bottle capacity.

Is there any other cheap recommendations?

store it flat and in the dark at a consistent slightly cool temperature. Bottom of a closet is ok but it will tend to get a bit of movement/light there as the closet is used.
I've found with wine coolers you really have to get the good ones (expensive) as the cheap ones are simply not reliable and while you think the wine is being stored correctly it isn't. Particularly nasty if it's over a long period.

I'd also suggest shopping around a bit. You don't have to spend €50 euros on wine to be "put down" but you do need an idea of how it will behave if stored for a few years. Your local wine store should have good wines < €20 that will mature nicely over the next while.
