    Hey all,

Just looking for some advice, I've noticed Creaking & Squeaking noises from my bike, seems to be from the back wheel...

Its there when peddling and free wheeling, I've not noticed anything loose on the back wheel, can anyone suggest what I could do in order to work out the source of the noise?

    Cheers in advance

    Step 1 Oil the chain
Step 2 check that you have no brake rub
If its still there bring it to your LBS to see if the bearings are worn

Be cautious of where the sound seems to be coming from !

I had a creak that seemed to be coming from the pedal/crank, because it was regular as clockwork on both left and right side, at the bottom of the stroke.

Turned out there were a couple of allen bolts loose on the chainring. Lovely.

Off for a spin and it was still there but now only on the right side. Turns out it wasn't the pedal/crank at all - it was the saddle mounting bolt.

Here's a Youtube on the subject which I found interesting -

Another problem I had, and I noticed it when I had the bike upside down for cleaning - the bearings inside the wheel were shot to pieces. This sounded like grit was inside the wheels, and I could see the wheels not spinning freely and for long enough. Not sure that you would hear that problem as a creak though, especially if on the move.

The noise is coming even when I'm not turning the pedels too guys, so that should rule out the chain wouldn't it

Bearings are gone in the back wheel. Put the bike upside and see if the wheel feels loose when shaken a bit.

You've had three replies, and every one of them has mentioned the bearings...

Cheers guys, that's what I first thought with regards the bearings, I've given the wheel a shaken and no budge, but will give it further inspection when I get home from work this evening.

I had the same over the past 2 weeks. Gave chain and Cassette a good cleaning and put wheel back on. But..noticed that there was some play in rear wheel.... it seemed to wobble on starting off. That was fine til this Tuesday when I stopped at a junction and as I pushed myself off - there was no connection with the rear wheel - the pedals went around, the chain spun around BUT the cassette did not move the when on. Was so lucky not to have fallen as was all clipped in!

Had to abandon cycle and brought to LBS who said that bearing must be gone!! Bike still in shop!!

Took the wheel off this morning, there is no play in it all, the wheel seems solid, will give the saddle clamp a look at next and the handle bars

Had 2 loose spokes that made noise even when not peddling.
