I'm looking for an elective that's concentrated on the world stock market (gold, Dow J, yahoo etc)
    (Teaching the basics of stocks&shares.)

Intro to finance does not appear to be as concentrated in the above.

Can anyone recommend a module that fits this basic description ?

No such module exists. Principles of Finance covers very little of what you'd be interested in, more so the valuation and theory of financial instruments rather than practical information. The final year modules offered again explore these concepts in greater detail. You're best bet is to just read a few books relating to your area of interest and avoiding having to do an entire module.

If you want information on solely the stock market I'd recommend this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shares-Made-Simple-beginners-market/dp/0857192353/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1376091465&sr=1-1&keywords=stock+market

If you want information on the various prominent financial markets I'd recommend this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Economist-Guide-Financial-Markets/dp/1846681731/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1376091390&sr=1-1&keywords=financial+markets

No module really fits that description. Investment and Portfolio Management is another option. Financial Economics I/II are more technically-orientated modules and probably focuses more on theory than you would like.

Being perfectly honest, most serious finance students would already have the basics of how markets operate. There is a wealth of information on the internet for you to get a grounding in almost any topic. Investopedia is popular. YouTube even has some good video tutorials, but some dreadful ones too. Some undergraduate courses from the US are freely available online (e.g., Yale and MIT).
