Not a fan. Larger buyers carrying all others. You will be tied as regards credit etc.
I know a few in a bit of bother this year in particular.

The BIL is farming over 500 acres in Cork and swears by the buying group he's part of. Around 30 members. Everyone is on committee once every 5 years. They started out bulk buying dry cow tubes now virtually all inputs, insurance, and finance(subject to conditions).

Auld lad is in one for years. We can always seem to buy meal, fertilizer and oil cheaper outside the group.

Yes and no is the answer,if you have a large outfit say 200 cows plus "PROBABLY" not alot in it for you. If you are a small outfit "PROBABLY" not alot in it for the purchasing group, am in one and found it good as for the membership fee i dont know how much they are looking but if its not worth the fee i think you have answered your own question as regards joining the group

Is the fee yearly or once off it may also be there to encourage farmers to source all or most of there i/p. I would imagine that it is all dependant on the buyer for the group. However most of these fellas are capable of doing a good job by themselves for themselves
