    Hi folks,

Car failed NCT as one of the coil springs was gone. Does anyone know how much this would cost?

Also the guy at the NCT said that i might be better off getting the two replaced as the suspension test might fail with one new one and one old one. Any thoughts?

Final question - anyone recommend a place in South Dublin to get it fixed cheaply. Its an Opel Astra.

    Thanks for your help

If Its a shock then you will indeed likely need both. But Ive never had a problem with replacing only one spring.

    Always best replaced in pairs.

You may find aset cheap on ebay or local motor factors and get independent mechanic to fit

    Springs about 25-40 each.

    Installation about 1-2 hours labour.

im guessing around 160 - 200 to replace the lot at midway prices inc parts

It's recommended to change both springs at the same time alright, but...

I broke one a year ago, got a second hand one (very similar age), no handling problems, no issues with NCT either. :)

common problem on astras, presume its the 98 - 03 model?? simple to replace, half an hour max, no need to do both and dont bother with second hand ones.

It would appear so, same just happened on my Astra G and failed NCT.
