    Hello,

I've gone a fair way with my first wordpress site and want to start working on getting it well ranked in search engines.

Do I need to submit it ? If so, is there one portal through which I can submit it to the main search engines?

Also can anyone recommend a good guide to improving my ranking / exposure?

    Thanks

I think this is what you're looking for

    Would highly recommend it!

...Actually if you're just looking for basics, maybe start with this

If your site is a self-hosted Wordpress then you might find this plugin useful: http://yoast.com/wordpress/seo/

And as for "submitting" - you'd probably want to look at Google's webmaster tools and Bing's equivalent

If you have no inbound links from other websites, no Google Analytics your site, no Google Adsense on your site and your site is a ccTLD site rather than com/net/org/biz/info then the chances of your site being found by search engines is low. It would be best to follow the advice given above.

Here you can submit your site to google:

Checkout google webmaster guide and MOZ's beginner guide to seo (http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo)

Everything the guys have said above are spot on but from what I can pick up from your question, you are new enough to the seo world so I would focus more on social platforms by getting your content out that way if its good enough and learn what you can of seo along the way, my reasoning is because seo is a pretty big learning curve and if you stop what you are doing now to try and get a hold on seo you will only go backwards, get social get seen and learn as you build also Neil Patel is a wizard but is advanced an can cause information overload for those just getting there feet wet just my 2 cents.

This is a good guide but as mentioned above can be information overload:

Writing some good content and post it on some blogs with a link to your site is always a good start!. Then work your way through that guide.

To get your site indexed on Google make an account with google webmaster tools and give it a day or 2. Also make your your website is optimised for your desired keyword by putting it in the title and content..but make it look and read natural.
