Quickest way to get a lymph node biopsy in Ireland?

    Hi there,

I've been to see my GP about an ongoing problem with swollen lymph nodes in my head, under my chin, neck, armpit, chest and groin (that's all, that I know of!). Glandular fever has been ruled out. She's recommended I go to see a haematologist and has tried to book an appointment for me with one in Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown. A friend of mine is also having a biopsy and said he had to wait about a month for the appointment.

I'm not too keen on waiting another couple of weeks to get it checked out, they've been getting worse quite quickly. Just wondering if anyone else has had this same experience and can recommend a quicker method of getting the procedure done, or anyone who knows of a good haematologist in Ireland who could get it seen to quickly?

I haven't had personal experience but I know someone who has. If your dr has prioritised you seeing someone, and chances are she has, it should move quickly enough once you get your appointment with the Dr. You can always ring up his office and see when the appointment will be.My friend saw the consultant on Monday, had biopsy on Thursday and results the following Monday.

Do you have VHI or health insurance ?If you do and there's a wait of more than 3 or 4 weeks you could ask your Dr to send you to a general surgeon for the biopsy privately and then have the results ready for the haematologist when you see him.

My friends results were not good and his case was pretty advanced so he started treatment 3 weeks later. He's healthy as can be now.4 Years and he's never looked back.

I hope you'll get good news. Good luck.
