Renault Laguna Dead Battery - Can't Get In

Anyone got any idea of how to get into a Renault Laguna 2002 with a dead battery. Card key will not work because of dead battery, neither will the temporary key in the card key work.

What happens when you try to use the physical key?

Take out the physical key and insert it into the drivers door, there is a cover on the keyhole which comes off.

My friend when he had a Renault Megane made special jump lead extensions from battery leading to under the car so he could hook up another battery when he had this problem .Then he got smart and switched out of Renault and went with Jap thing with normal keys

Surely the smart thing to do would have been to remove the cover from the door lock on the passenger door, remove the physical key from the key card and then open the door............

    ...........sounds easy to me......

fact of the matter is all renaults from that era are utter rubbish. How they passed quality control in the factory is beyond me!

Jack it up put it on stands and try and connect a battery to the main live on the starter earth off the body somewhere and operate the remote.

Yep. Did you remove the plastic cover and actually put it in the key slot. Not being smart but I know someone who just put itin the hole in the plastic cover and thought they was enough

How does the key make any difference? If another car has remote central locking its exactly the same.

And how is this verified pub talk meant to help the OP? Infact, what help were you to the gentlemen in question from the pub, apart from making awful names for cars and more than likely writing an essay for them...... What work have you done to any of those vehicles?

What problems did these cars have? And whats your horseburger beef with a French cars and b short to the point replies???

Only problem now I face is I'll probably get an extention to the twilight saga as a reply :(

Those who are so defensive for the french cars are either a owner of one of these things or french .

I just spent the last few months living in France for short term contract and was updated buy french mechanics on the real world problems they encounter with the cars every day and yes I speak french so its not lost in translation .yes in the old days pre 1990 french cars were OK not much electronics in them but now they are star trec stuff electronic and unlike Japan French don't do good electronics that last many years
And I don't drink so its not pub talk

I use to own a renault laguna the only thing worse is the diesel.
The laguna II must rank as worst built renault.

Even on renualt fourms most owners would never buy another.

Don't know a enough to give you much advice but I think the brand of coil has a lot to do with reliability.

I've seen a few clios needing new coils, happened to my sisters car, then again the head gasket went on that when it was only 2 years old

In fairness, Lagunas and Meganes from the 2001-2006 era are absolute junk. Even with the best maintenance in the world they will still give problems. I accept the newer ones aren't half as bad, and in fairness, the original Mégane gave very few problems if you went for a petrol one. It was a very nice car to be in as well actually (far nicer than a late 90s Corolla for example), and it was far, far safer than its competitors.

Agree it was around 2001 renault quality just went south. Pity as when they are working correctly they are beautiful to drive, quick and economical.
The pre 2001 laguna also was a better built car.
I'm not so sure renault have improved quality enough to make it as reliable as other major brands. Plus renault parts are still expensive.

    I wouldn't take a chance on

There are four pencil coils. You should change all four or at least the matching pair otherwise you'll be paying a mechanic four times. It works out roughly the same to buy all four as it does a larger single coil on other cars, around 130 euro.

You can fit them easily with a 10mm socket. Easier than changing a tyre. If you regularly replace the spark plugs with genuine renault ones and use decent quality coils you should get a few years out of them.

Am I the only one who didn't have one that was an utter crock?

The only thing wrong with it was that it killed a battery once. Then I killed it by taking it for a swim down a flooded street.

The door lock should work, unless it's corroded inside somehow. I had to do it once and had no problems.
