    Hi

We've estimated our wedding costs at aprox 8-9k, which we think for 1-2 days out is excessive. Can anyone recommend a quirky/offbeat venue in either Dublin or Wexford?

Without doing a complete cull on the invitations we're looking at 100 people!!! Hopefully we could get that down to 40-50...

    Thanks:D

OP, seriously... We're gonna need more info than that ... What does the 8/9k cover?

    Thanks to everyone who responded but here's and idea of what the 8-9k covered;

    Day 1dress
    rings
    flowers
accommodation for 2 nights for (us, family, bridsmaid, groomsman)
transport from hotel to reception venue
fingerfood at venue (we decided against a sit down meal)
    the toast
    about 1k behind the bar

    Day 2
Outfits for the two of us
    2k behind the bar

    That just about covers it.

What is €1k/€2k behind the bar? Is that like a tab and when it reaches that amount then guests have to pay for their own drinks? If so, is is absolutely necessary? I've never heard of that, mind you, I've only ever been to two weddings and one of those was abroad and the hotel did set prices for drinks and for the meal the b&g had brought in their own wine so guests didn't have to pay for that (Unless they wanted a different wine from the bar, then they paid for it).

Where are you looking to get married? Have you got individual prices for each of the things you've listed? Can you post those price, maybe then others can give you ideas/suggestions on cutting the cost on some of them.

So OP, let me get this right - the €8/9k consists of two thirds wedding stuff and one third (a whopping €3k) behind the bar? What are you thinking? Nobody these days puts a tab behind the bar unless you have money flowing out of your eyeballs, you'd be half mad to spend €3k on drink for everybody. People do not expect to have their drinks paid for. A toast drink is good, so keep that in but don't waste €3k which clearly you do not have ...

    What about a band/DJ?

And if you are putting 1000 euro behind the bar for 100 guests that's 100 euro for each person for drink … that's a crazy amount!

€1000 behind bar for first night would be €10 per person for 100 people. Sorry to correct you bee06. If it were €100 per person that would be some party!!!! Lol :-)

as a poster outlined above earlier - is the 8/9k suppose to cover everything

    invites - can be from 100 - 300 euro - even down to 50 odd c a stamp
ceremony venue - you have to hire a room, any decoration. transfer to venue.
    registering intent 200 euro
if catholic ceremony you might have to do marriage course can cost up to 200 euro
    solumiser/priest seen prices from 200-400.
flowers - even the minimal will cost
any bridesmaids and groomsmen and their outfits
what entertainment are you looking for - music for ceremony, dj, band - music the next day

brides dress whats the budget can be 50 euro to 5000 depending on the girl. shoes veil etc how long is a piece of string.

    bride hair and makeup

finger food - what time is your ceremony at - will finger food cover it off. I'd imagine its more important to provide proper food than a couple of drinks per person. platters are only like 6 euro per person depending on venue.

you gonna bother with a cake ?
    you want a photographer ?
what kind of rings do you want?

tbh loads of people talk and want quirky weddings but in fact they tend to actually cost more than a cookie cutter wedding as you can get great deals off hotels now - like 30 euro pp because they want your business
