If there is a hole in the water pipes after point where water meter installed, water could flow into the ground and you would have to pay for it.

How would u know if there was a leak?
Would u have to pay for the lost water anyway?
The pipes are very old they must have many leaks. Do u pay for the water u use, the leaked water and fixing the pipes after the meter?

If the water leak is on your property, it's your responsibility.

AS far as I know Irish Water would be responsible for fixing any holes in your pipes and would probably have to reduce your bill to reflect a leak as it is their responsibility to make sure the pipes up to your house are not leaking (whereby you take ownership of the pipes or leaky taps).

Afaik its the same with the ESB and Bord Gais, if there is a problem after the meter its your problem not theirs.

Is this a question or an answer?

This may be of interest to this thread: http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/leaks-to-be-fixed-for-free-in-water-bills-plan-29326854.html

"First fixes" to leaks will be free where the leak occurs on private property. After the first fix, you're on your own.
