Should my partner tell her internship boss that she is looking for a proper job or stay quiet until she is offered one.

She is afraid that if she doesn't tell them and the new company ring looking for recommendation that it would be rude not to warn them in advance

Employers are supposed to give time off to Interns for job interviews, my partner was told this by her Intern boss so I wouldn't see any issue if your partner is actively looking for employment whilst working the Internship, or needs time off for interviews etc...

A prospective employer shouldn't contact your references without notifying you first. A simply way to solve your issue is only provide references once asked. Don't just automatically add them to the bottom of a CV.

They shouldn't - but sometimes they do, particularly if it's a small industry and prospective and current boss know each other already.

Of course she should tell - the workign assumption of any internship is that it lasts only until the person finds a real job.
