these are a pain in the butt, any of ye have a magic solution, have put in lintels but cows can move them... cut a special plate to fit over another one and put it over pipe too.... also cut a sleeper and put it in another one none of these are satisfactory, any ideas

Have the same problem myself but I think its more to do with the supply and water present in the trough not being good enough which has them nose n at the ball cock, either that or your cows are just vandals :-)

Is it only here or are drinkers much harder to keep clean this summer than normal?

you don't like the plastic troughs either

if it's the supplied bridge that they're moving why not run a strip of perforated banding at each end with end 4 small rawbolts

    5 minute fix ,,

not sure if I usderstand you query though ,, a bit sluggish this morn :(

a drop of chlorus in the water when the catlle leave the field , leave for a few days and drain trough
will keep clean for a good few weeks

if the cows can move it then there is no lip in the lintel. Drill some screw on the under side of the lintel that will stop it from being moved from side to side

How big are the troughs? We have an electric fence running across the middle of ours, no problem with the lintels. Could you stick them in with lots of silicone?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Troughs here are too small when a couple of cows get there heads in the trough nothing will hold the bridge in place .
A trough with a fixed bridge or a bottom fill trough is the best option.
How many gallons/cow should a trough be?

There s should be 120 litres per cow available at all times

its a problem with the sucklers drinkers too , so its not a number of cows problem- although it doesnt help- some of them have a bridge that the ballcock gets stuck under when filling, i suppose i am just hard to please

2 small bits of side sheeting one at each side of the ball would solve this

a couple of small fixing screws to hold in place

Could you put some masonary nails either side? Predrill with a battery drill

All paddocks are set up for strip grazing- at least 3 days in every paddock bar 2 which are 36 hours

Back fence put up every 24 hours with new grass every 12

are you sure your right with that figure, thats 12k ltrs trough space for only 100 cows. lots or troughs are all well and good but there will be a fair amount of ground taken up by the mess around them when weather turns with allot of dirty grass also surrounding the drinkers. Were less bigger troughs not an option if you want such capacity

Off topic but thought some might find pic attached useful

PS I am on 3/4 inch pipe and I could not get appreciable benefit fitting the rxp ball cocks over the medium pressure insert in a half inch ballcock. But I did get a big improvement in going from the high pressure inserts for the medium pressure ones.

those RXP ones are not good for shutting off when full if running at decent pressure
