Freeview Aerial Setup query

    Hello all,

I want to get clarification regarding the proposed Freeview Aerial setup that i am considering. I wish to get Freeview from Brougher Mountain as i am located outside Virginia, Co. Cavan and all houses in the area are receiving Freeview also.

The setup i was thinking of would be in

Group A Aeriel - Horizontally Polarised (71 Element Aerial)
Diplexer to combine with my existing Saorview Aerial
Medium Gain Mast head amplifier (if needed)

The above would then feed into an existing 4 way power unit in the Attic that would distribute the signal to where ever needed.

I am wondering is my sequence correct above, ie can the power unit in the attic power both the Mast head amp (if needed) and the Diplexer in sequence?

Thanks in advance for any input chaps.

The diplexer doesn't need power but should be capable of passing power through to an amplifier on one or other (or both) of the aerial cables feeding into it, as you may only need to amplify the signal from one aerial.

Ideally you would have a means of measuring signal levels at different points in the system, with the aim being to get all your wanted channels present at the receiver with a bit of extra margin, but not at excessively high levels & without causing problems further back in the distribution system.

If you go for Brougher, you will probably only get the 3 PSB multiplexes. The commercial muxes are transmitted at significantly lower power (2 kW v. 20 kW for the PSBs) & share channels with Divis PSBs. Even if the signal from Divis doesn't provide a useful service in your area, it might still be strong enough to ruin reception of Brougher coms.
