Connecting flights

I've tried googling this but I'm getting conflicting answers so I thought I'd see if anyone here could help. If I have a flight that has a stopover and I check my bags all the way through to home would there be a problem with me leaving the airport in my stopover city?

Technically I wouldn't actually be physically leaving the airport I'd just be meeting some friends in arrivals to kill my wait. I was hoping I could get off the plane, head to arrivals and a few hours later go back through security for my connecting flight. But some answers I've seen online think this wouldn't be possible with my bags checked through.

This flight will start and connect in two different US cities before heading back to Ireland If that makes any difference. Any info would be great the airline and airport websites have no info on this

    Shouldn't be an issue.

The first leg would be a domestic flight so there wouldn't even be security at the end of it.

Instead of following the signs for transit, just follow the signs for exit.

I have done this many times BUT depending on the connecting airports, there is a slim possibility that you might be re-routed (weather delays/technical issues with aircraft).

Happened me once when I was due to fly to Dublin via PHL but was re-routed through CLT. Just leave yourself plenty of time to re-clear security in your connecting airport.

just as a bit of background info, if you have an irish (or EU) passport then indeed all is hunky dorey but maybe i can explain a possibility for some of the conflicting answers online on the WORLD WIDE web.

For folks from places like India and other developing countries, they have all sorts of problems with visas as they may have a transit visa but not a landing visa so they cant exit airport airside in many instances as they havent the proper visa.

Happens a lot in Heathrow or Frankfurt when theres weather problems and inside security becomes like a refugee camp as literally heaps of folks from developing countries on route to a 3rd country cannot leave security so must sleep airside till they get a fight out of there!!!
