Burst tyre, but tube intact

    What happened my tyre?!

    I have a hybrid/MTB with:
    • 26 x 1.5/1.75 wheels (bought about 1,000km ago, 2 months ago)
    • 26 x 1.5 Schwalbe CityJets (bought about 3,000km ago, 6 months ago)

Last week I noticed a bump in my rear wheel as I was coming towards the end of a 50km spin. It turns out that the rim has a very slight buckle, but the tyre is way out of shape. I inspected it today and found that the tyre has burst, but the tube is intact.

Do I just need a new tyre? What caused the bulge to happen in the first place? Are those my feet?!

If the tubes intact then you just need a new tire.

Thanks Walshey! Any ideas on how it could have happened? Too high a PSI? Pumped up to 80 with a max of 85 ...

Glass shard cut through the rubber and threads, but not deep enough to damage the tube. Pressure finished the job.

    (I think I'll replace mine . Too much coincidence ;-) http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057010881 )

More than likely just bad luck. If it quotes 85 psi then 80 is perfectly fine :)

Tube no longer intact - had a blowout this morning! Thanks for the help, have new tyres ordered - will probably put front tyre on the rear and put new one on the front.
