What a Joke, ok it narrows the road and makes it safer to cross, but jesus you could grow a beard while waiting for these lights to give pedestrians the right to cross, even if someone from both sides of the road have pushed the buttons.

I've often pushed the button, (and this is always at non busy times in the day) with not a lot of traffic around, wait a bit and when no traffic coming cross the road and while a few hundred yards on me way I can hear bleeps from the lights allowing me to cross. I give up.

something must be wrong with your finger..
You press and it stops the traffic fairly quickly.. i know because my daughter gives out to people that dont wait.

The trick is to arrive 5 mins early, press the button and experience the joy of getting to the other side of the road ahead of schedule :P

I actually think they are the fastest traffic lights in town. They go off literally after you press it.

If someone else has just used the lights then they will not stop instantly again within a certain time frame.
Also pressing the button "at quiet times of day" is unnecessary unless you are an OAP or invalid or with children (maybe you are) and just holds up traffic unnecessarily

Went to Aldi today and lights changed immediately.... don't know how long it was before the last person used them.

They used to change quite quickly when they first put them up then later they seemed to take forever which is ridiculous as its a very dangerous spot for pedestrians even with the lights now.

Maybe the corpo saw this thread and adjusted them, well done lads if ye did.

The lights by the park (next to the Three Shippes) change immediately, even if someone's just used the crossing.

The ones at Aldi still have a mind of their own, would be better off with a pedestrian crossing there now.

its the inductive loop that's buried in the road surface. You can see them in different parts of the road, they look like rectangular tar markings. Depending on the amount of cars that are passing within the loops, the traffic lights will either decrease or increase in time. A lot of traffic coming, the timer will increase giving the traffic right of way.

Dude... I'm 31 and still can't grow a beard... is this all it takes?

These lights are a total joke.....both for pedestrians and motorists....stand there for a while and observe. Does no one bother to monitor how effective lights are in this city.

They could get someone on an employment scheme to monitor these for only €00 a week and they would probably make a better job of it to all our benefit.
