    Hi guys,

I want to use a raspberry pi to monitor all traffic on my home LAN. Incoming / outgoing connections and websites visited.

Can you recommend some open source software to achieve this.

    Thanks

Loads of them - just go

    apt-get install ( name of thingy )
    iptraf

    tcpdump

    ntop

^^^^^ if you are passing traffic through the Pi ( using say a USB to ethernet converter)

    List here :

( will add more in a bit )

NSA for your home  How are you proposing to monitor wireless devices? You would really need a router based solution to capture ALL traffic.

Once I'm up and running you're more than welcome to use my network :pac::pac:

Seriously, it's more of a project than anything else. If a wireless device is connected to my wifi Im hoping some of the suggestions from gctest50 will capture the traffic as the gateway will be the same.

I just hope the pi doesn't cause a bottle neck.

A bit of wiring and you could make an ethernet tap and put it between the wifi-box and your modem
or get a network switch that can do monitoring on a port
or get an old hub ( fsckerzs 2 way traffic a bit though) ( will spray everything out all ports)

Advantage to passing traffic though a fairly quick box is you can alter packets n stuff
