Undenominated Science Lvl 7

    Hey.

I just finished third year of undenominated science.
To cut a long story short, I picked the wrong subjects, and hate what I'm doing.
Considering packing it in and graduating with a level 7 degree, rather than finishing the final year.
Has anyone else done this or know someone that has?
Is there anything I should know?
    Seems hard to find information.

Do you find the subjects you're doing hard? Coz if it was me Id probably hold out the year to get the full degree seeings as you went this far...
When I was going into fourth year(2012) we got a letter in the post asking us to tick the option we were gonna do and send it back... A) continue B) defer the year or C) take the level 7.. I dont know anyone who did it sorry so im not really much help just thought id tell ya about the letter!

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know!

I know I would probably be better sticking the final year out, for the full degree, but I'm really not into it.
Want to go back in a few years and do something else, when I figure out what something else is.

I would strongly recommend going and talking to the staff in the College of Science office as soon as possible rather than waiting around for the University to contact you. They'll be able to provide you with answers to your questions so that you can make the decision that is right for you. Whatever you decide to do they will help you in following the right procedures whichever route you go. Contact details for the College of Science staff are on their website www.nuigalway.ie/science/.

If you're defo not gonna do anything science falter in the future. Maybe take the level 7 and run.

That way, when you go back in a few years to do something else, you'll pay fees for 1st-3rd year & you won't have to pay fees in 4th year.

That said, level 7s are barely worth the paper they are written on, I'd hang in there for one more year, you could then try a post grad in a different field, will be much harder to get into with just a level 7.

Unlike an honours Science degree, of course...

Has anyone ever been asked whether they did an honours or pass degree? If you have a 1:1, you're still going to say you got an honours degree, right? I can't see it making a huge difference for most jobs, but I didn't do a general science degree, so I could be mistaken.

I will say that I hated my degree - was going to quit after first year and then second year and then just muddled through not enjoying it. However, having the degree enabled me to do a PhD on one tiny aspect of the course which I'd found interesting, and I really enjoyed the four years I then spent doing that. You are less likely to get a postgrad without an honours degree, as pointed out above.

Do you mean lying? cause a 1.1 in a pass degree does not make an honours.

Ah here, if you're going for any sort of a job, they'll want proof of your qualification.

    A 3 year degree is a level 7, a 4 year degree is a level 8.

A first in a level 7 doesn't open many doors, end of.

    Moreso twisting the truth...

A phd doesn't seem to be opening a whole pile either :P
Seems industry is finally twigging that a college degree often isn't worth a tuppenny ****e... The feckers...
