Berlin is very reasonable and has tons to do. We went on a budget there a few years ago. Brilliant trip that didnt break the bank.

Prague or Bruges? Other cities can be pricey but nice to visit.

Munich is also not expensive and theres direct Aerlingus and Ryanair flights from Dublin and Cork.
Some of the Ryanair fares in the Autumn are for next to nothing.

Even if there's cheap flights then accomodation can be expensive no matter where you go even in Eastern Europe, so be sure to look into that before getting too excited on finding a cheap flight.

some of the destinations in Poland are supposed to be lovely(and cheap!) and maybe a Ryanair flight could be picked up in the Autumn for next to nothing?
From now till the end of the school holidays you'd be doing well to get anything affordable regardless of the destination.

Oh yeah were defo gonna go when the school's are back.
I never thought of Poland actually, ill look into that.... Ryanair are a-holes but they are the cheapest so we will defo book our flights with them where ever we go.
    Thanks for the advice :)

also a hidden cost with traveling with Ryanair to funky regional airports is the extra 15+euro each way that a shuttle but costs to get somewhere useful. So 60euro+ for a couple!
If you fly to a proper city airport in Poland or the likes then they may have cheapo local normal busses to bring you to the city.

Maybe also look into places in Britanny and Normandy. I saw there was flights to the likes of Nantes and that recently enough. Accomodation in France can be for a pittance if you are ok with staying in something like an Etap, now branded as Ibis Budget. Fairly basic but clean and often with free wifi. Breakfast also only a fiver and is all you can eat croissant, baguette, joghurts and coffee.

I don't travel unless it's on a budget! I got Rome for 600 for two people in May/June for 12 days, theres tons to do and it really isn't expensive at all. Flights for September are for next to nothing at the minute and the accomodation (4 star campsite 20mins outside Rome and near the airport) is for next to nothing. Really worth considering!

    +1.
Krakow's airport is not far from the city. It's serviced by a small railway platform at "Krakow Balice", there is a a free shuttle bus (5min journey) between the airport and this. Rail tickets are very cheap.

Paris can work out really cheap if you do it right. I went for 5 days in June and got 4 nights accom, return flights, my transport from airport to Paris, a day in Disneyland and all my food and whatever I needed for €170!

I also went to Belgium a few months back. Trained it between Antwerp,Brussels and Bruges and really enjoyed it! Belgium isn't to everybody's taste though, a lot of people told me it was crap and boring before I went but I loved it, Bruges is so beautiful, it's like a little fairytale!

Porto is good too, but only for a few days, not too expensive either. It might get a bit boring if you're there for more than 4/5 days though.

Rome is a beautiful city! Can work out expensive if you don't shop around. But if you do your research you'll be fine! Like €600 for 2 people for 12 nights is insanely good, but you have to do your research and shop around!... And get some tips from clumsyklutz :p

And if it's between Prague and Berlin, it would have to be Berlin! Amazing city, sooo interesting and you're not going to be bored! Nightlife is great, lots of pubcrawls and the likes. I did a bike tour there and it was so much fun. Would highly recommend Berlin.

Aw thanks :) most people can't believe what I get my holidays for! The way I see it is there's no point spending €2,000 on a package holiday (like the partners brother) when if you spent a little time researching you could get three holidays for that price! (it's a very tempting concept!!)

Pisa is a beautiful city and perfect for city breaks :) flights and accomodation in a 4 star hotel for 4 nights only cost €330-350.00 for two people

Biarritz is another lovely place to go, but you really need the summer sun to appreciate all it has to offer (though September is usally still quite sunny :) )

Out of curiosity I decided to look up flights/hotels for Berlin - wow!
Flights from 16-20 September are only €85.00pp (if you don't mind Ryanair!!) or €76.00 if you return a day earlier.

As for hotels the Pension Thomas is located only 5km outside the city and has received good reviews for only €137.60! (http://www.expedia.ie/Berlin-Hotels-Pension-Thomas.h6152942.Hotel-Information?&chkin=16/09/2013&chkout=20/09/2013&rm1=a2&affcid=expe.ie.001.000.2224033.17346454&eapid=1969-63&afflid=HTL.6152942.B5.Berlin&mctc=5) So for 4 nights in Berlin return flights and accomdation would be €307.60! (Or three nights would only be 254.40 for two people for the whole holiday!)

I wouldnt recommend Pisa... Not a lot to see outside of the tower.

My top recommendation would be Madrid. I've been about 10 times and will be heading back for more!

I went to Pisa last year theres much more to Pisa than the tower if you just look! Even exploring all the back streets is fascinating :-) a little bit of research goes a long way before you go over
