    Hey Guys

Just a thought, as the Dublin Bus strike is over, Is it right that customers whom have bought prepaid tickets or yearly tickets be entitled to some sort of compensation?

well they failed to supply an adequate service during said period to which you have already paid so as a consumer with rights technically yes

Once you have a non consecutive ticket you are entitled for a refund for the three days. That's the official line from DB. You'll have to go into O'Connell street in person to get the refund though.

They didn't provide a service for 3 days to those who paid for a monthly or annual ticket so they have to refund people for that period. They are probably hoping people don't apply for it but legally they owe people like me money.

I went into Dublin Bus to get mine today and I am not pleased to say the least and will be taking it further. I have an Annual Bus & Luas ticket and use it Mon - Fri to get to work and to get around at the weekend I don't drive.

According to the girl on the customer service desk I am entitled to a total of €5.50 for 3 days as I had the Luas on my ticket!!

I live on the northside. I need the bus to get to the Luas so their reasoning is completely flawed. The only reason I have the Luas on my ticket is to get from Busaras to Heuston for work. It is an ancillary part of my ticket. Without the bus I can't get to the Luas!

It was fairly obvious the girl on the desk didn't agree with it or had plenty of irate customers in already as she just held up a printout and said her manager gave her this directive and she had to follow it. There was a number of us at the desk being told the same thing and none of us were happy. We asked her how much you would get if you had just an annual bus ticket and she said €10. I am just as put out as a person with just a bus ticket but I get 55% of what they get! Even then I think €10 is measly.

By my reckoning I am entitled to the equivalent value of a 3 day unlimited bus ticket i.e. €15 and they are ripping me off with anything less than that.

She gave me a number to ring to complain when I asked could I speak to her manager.

I will ring it on Monday but does anyone know who regulates them? Is there an equivalent to Comreg for them?

I will first try the number she gave me on Monday but if I get no joy I want to know who to escalate it to?

Does anyone know who to complain to about it .. is it National Consumer Agency, Dept. of Transport, Leo Varadkar?

I plan to visit them on Monday, I can see your point though it is a bus and luas ticket, not just a luas ticket. I wouldnt say its comreg as they are only for communications. Was the number for Dublin bus?

NTA. While not having a go at you, this complaining to TDs stuff is nonsense. Their job is to legislate, not to get people refunds on their bus tickets.

So you reckon you are owed €10, now how long would it take you to earn that, one hour?
Now how much time will you spend chasing that €10? 2 or 3 hours? maybe more, dragging out over weeks? All the time you are annoyed and possibly stressed out, all over €10!

Let it go, be happy and move on with you life.

Eh, no. We will not lie down and be rolled over.

Once the strike ended, every annual or monthly ticket holder should have been posted a 3-day Rambler ticket (or multi-mode ticket where appropriate). Admittedly, not every monthly ticket holder will be registered.

Life is full of "should have". We know they ain't going to, so instead of chasing €10 go and spend that time doing something you enjoy.
You will have forgotten in a few days, or you can spend the next few week's annoyed trying to get €10. Your time, effort and possibly money will be spent on this.
Life is too short to be doing something that will cause you stress.
Forgot about the €10 you won't be getting it with out a load of effort, that's if you do even getting it. Ultimately it will leave you even more bitter.

The Boarder, The number they gave me was 01 8734222.

Niall Sparky, thanks for the heads up on the NTA. I don't usually make a habit of complaining to TD's about stuff but Dublin Bus are effectively a state owned company (government subsidised) so my thinking was Leo Varadkar is the ultimate boss, he regulates them. Why else would the unions want them to intervene, or blame them for reducing the subvention. If a government funded company is screwing over the public he is ultimately responsible.

mx888882, It's not the €10 it's the principle. They wouldn't let me on the bus if I was 20c short of the fare so who are they to cancel a service I paid for and tell me it's only worth €5.50 when they charge €15 for the same 3 day service. It's also the inconvenience of not having a bus service for 3 days, having to find alternative ways of getting around. If they were an airline they would have to pay compensation on top of that as airlines are regulated.

I don't drive so I rely on Dublin Bus. I pay over €1300 a year for the privilege, so yes when they leave me high and dry for 3 days and give me €5.50 as I had the Luas on my ticket I feel I am entitled to be a little incensed by it and I don't want them to get away with it. The Luas is no good to a northsider on it's own. It has to be combined with the bus or Dart to be of any use.

Multiply that €10 by everyone entitled to that refund and that's what I am fighting for. If everyone owed it highlights the issue to whoever can force them into being fair then why not? I mightn't change their stance on my own but unite with others and who knows.

Not everyone stands up for themselves, I do. And even if I don't get what I am owed if 10 people read this who didn't realise they were entitled to the refund go in and get it then I have taken the money out of their grubby little hands another way!

And Dublin Bus need their customers, especially monthly and annual ticket holders. A small token like quickly and adequately apologising for complete removal of service would go a long way towards achieving that. Instead they're forcing their customers to go to a single location and beg for some paltry amount.

Should a refund only be necessary for a consecutive ticket like an annual ticket?

Non-consecutive just picks up where you left off..

Am I entitled to any refund if I have a Taxsaver annual bus ticket?

Sorry about that, I meant consecutive.

Minevah, yes you are. Dublin Bus were paid in full for your ticket. The saving you made came from the government not them.
