Is this what should be taught in sex education classes? (probably safe for work)

Seems legit for the leaving cert crowd at any rate - the terminology used isn't stuff they haven't heard before by that stage, and it does a good job in dispelling myths that may have been built up in the heads of young people with regard to sex from what they pick up watching porn, without particularly encouraging any act mentioned.

The fact that we now live in an age whereby young teenagers almost univerally have access to online pornography is something that needs to be understood within this generation of adults. The genie is very much out of the bottle on this one, and without resorting to internet blocks like David Cameron is considering in the UK there is very little prospect of this issue going away in the forseeable future.

IMO far better to try and limit any potential damage such a reality can have on impressionable young minds through education such as this when they are old enough to understand it.

I thought the video was stupid. Also, this illusion that every male teenager thinks that porn sex is exactly like real sex isn't true. We're not retards for fuck sake.

I could have done without the graphics at the 1.02 mark, thank you very much.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Looks bent so I'm not going to watch it. If it's on youtube already, chances are they have seen worse and won't need this as 'education'.

I've just been reading a book on the topic (honestly) and absolutely and it's not just teenagers that could do with some basic lessons in sex ed.

Whenever I watch those things I feel kinda happy that I've had mostly ladies that actually do a lot of what is mentioned :)

Actually, I don't think Sex Ed should be included in the school curriculum at all. To me, it's just lazy parenting once again. There's too much of a focus away from actual academics in the educational system at present, the last thing needed is more non exam subjects (SPHE at JC level, compulsory religion etc...). It's not the states responsibility to educate kids about sex, why can't some parents do their job properly?

Yeah, but it ultimately falls upon the State to pick up tab coming from the consequences of kids who are uneducated about sex, whether that be in the form of STD treatment or teen pregnancy, so it makes sense to include some form of sex education - the comparison with religion class is a silly one.

Of course parents should be teaching kids about the birds and the bees themselves - unfortunately (in this strange country of ours especially) that often just doesn't happen, or the parents themselves are still misinformed as to the facts of certain things. As a result there is very little harm in putting sex education on the agenda - those that are getting it already from parents may have an extra few lessons on the subject to reinforce what is being said, and those that aren't can be spared some huge potential problems later.

We buried this stuff under the carpet for years under the Catholic Churchs way of doing things - it didn't serve us very well for one thing, it is now utterly impossible in an internet age for another

Why not? Students are much more likely to need know about reproduction, contraception and protection than they about how glacial erosion affected the landscape of Offaly.

It's one of the few lessons that at least 95% of then absolutely will need.

And the lesson shouldn't really change from household to household* so it's better to get the experts in to teach then rather than parents who may not do the best job.

*If you want to teach them to abstain fine, but they should still know how to protect themselves if they choose not to listen.
