Just got my brand new ariva 150 combo. It is to replace a walker combo.Have channels set up. Recording from epg seems ancient...other older boxes I have have a record option on epg ..one click set recording ..this box seems to have old style set up...set timer/ record ..click down along till you save the recording ....works ok ...very long winded ....

I only bought it for one reason that is to watch programmes from years back I like via you tube.

I cannot get it to work ...plugged in 02 mobile USB ..no luck ...cannot seem to get box to search for available wi fi ...have 3 and 02 ...in house ....

Any advice please......it's no use to me as it is ...doesn't do as advertised thanks...

Do you have wifi dongle for your arriva? If not you will need 3g router with ethernet coble connected direct to your box, make sure you have latest software.

Haven't the 150/250 been superseded by the 152/252? Don't know if they're any better WRT OP issues . . .

Bought it new from satellite ie ...tony there very helpful prior to buying the box and still trying to assist me .. Re this end of it ... I only wanted the box to watch you tube etc ... I have mobile broadband - 02 and 3 - now only becoming aware of this dongle thing for the avira ! News to me ... Unfortunately ... Kinda sorry I bought it now ( just replacing a walker combo)
Tony now tells me his doesn't stuck these dongles as they are unreliable !!
Where to go now!? Are these dongles unreliable ? Can you get a reliable one? Recommend a make ? Maplins maybe?

How much extra is this going to cost I wonder!?
Many thanks for your reply anyway ... Hope to hear back from ya soon!
    Paddy

Ps can you get Ethernet cable that will plug into mi fi modems??? There is only a standard charge to USB .... "Hole" in the dongle if you follow . Thks 😂!

I have the 250 and I purchased a Ferguson Dongle on adverts.ie here for 12 Euro it works ok, you should get one on ebay, if you cant get one hook it up by cable I never tried cable but I am sure it will be fine.

There is one for sale there on this link

What is wrong with you, linking to a Sexism thread ? I am sure that was funny in your head all the same.

Anyhow, paddy. No you cannot just plug in your o2 dongle into the box.

These boxes require either a network cable to be connected to the ethernet port or you can try and use a specific usb wifi dongle made on a specific chipset to connect to your wifi hub.

The Chipset of the USB wifi device that the box expects is the RT5370 (nothing else will do!).

It is all in the thread on the 150 or 250 range.

Do NOT get one that does not have an aerial on it as they are useless and burn out fairly quickly.

They look like this and must have RT5370 in the spec.

    266323.JPG

google Mini 150Mbps USB Wireless Network Card (you wont need the disk that comes with it).

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/RT5370-Mini-150Mbps-USB-Wireless-Network-Card-WiFi-LAN-Adapter-PC-802-11n-g-b-/370626089639?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item564b0952a7

Also be aware that these wifi devices are not that stable (thats why Tony would be reluctant to sell you the dongles) and as soon as youtube move stuff around the box may have to be flashed with the latest firmware from the ferguson site.

Fantastic answer ! Cheers ... Got one like your pic no aerial tho ... 20 euro going to try it out later ... Fingers crossed .. Sounds confusing that flash scenario you speak of! Hopefull don't have to go down that road !!

I don't mean to sound rude or unhelpful but the box is working fine. It looks like you bought an incorrect product. I looks like you needed a media player not a combi box.

I wanted a combi set top box with you tube.
I got a combi set top box with you tube.

    ??????? I don't understand your point.

The box connects to the internet in order to watch YOU TUBE.

It will not connect to my house wifi that's my issue. This wasn't flagged to
me as a possible issue that is my problem. My sony bravia TV connects to the internet no bother no dongle required ..I presumed this box did that and I wasn't advised any differently...

probably best to read the post in full. I would have thought it was a given...that one would presume in addition to the TV channels...

anyway I replaced it with the walker combo to do as that combo did and to watch old stuff on you tube...

Do not buy another one. They are all the same design, especially the one linked to.

There is a procedure for connecting its in the main thread on the terretsrial forums main thread for this box. It is not plug and play. You have to enable it.

Ok will have to try find this post you say later. ( If you could send link appreciate it - this is wasting a lot of time I could do without) tho... seems simple .. Network - wifi manager - it searched and found available networks - progress bar to 99% thats it .... You then have the option ton"save" network found ..
I couldn't imagine that there is anything more to it than that ... Before I re package to return to seller I will email ferguson to see if anything else needs to be done ... I can't find serial number etc to make that enquiry as yet .... I presume tony ... Satellite ie ...must have this info will email him later ... Thks anyway

Why would you be sending it back? Theres nothing wrong with it. Also using 3g to stream video will not be very efficient. Make sure you keep an eye on your data allowance too as streaming video takes a lot of your allowance. Ive got a 150 and it works fine on youtube (Some videos are blocked though), but im using an ethernet cable to my vodafone modem (DSL). The Vodafone modems have a usb port for the 3g dongle, which then can be shared via ethernet.

Thanks ... You have you tube etc working in the 150. I don't. If you see the picture I posted the box finds it but will not connect . I bought the USB dongle recommended for the 150 ... It still doesn't work . I was told it should.
That is why I would be sending it back .
I only watch tv infrequently I like to watch occasional old programmes when I do.
I bought the box for that reason .

Ps I don't want to return it! I want it to work !

How do you enable it? Have it found and " saved" progress bar goes to 98% will not go to 100%

Has it looked for and have you entered your wireless password?

Having set up this in the past with a different Ariva box, my faded recollection is that it will only work with WEP and not with WPA or WPA2. Try that.

These are a pain in the h**e to get set up properly and as already stated, are hit and miss. They also don't seem to last p*ssing time.

Got it going ... The progress bar is confusing as is the lack of guidelines on how to set up ... Having you porn visible in the apps menu is a disgrace with kids enquiring about it .... Shame on ferguson
... Will see how it works over next few months .... That issue in itself is a minus .... You really need a tech support even paid for for this type of set up

Give it 2 weeks. Those ones without the aerial burn out! There is nowhere for the heat to dissipate.

Makes no sense to meðŸ˜cool air is circulating around it. Is there some sort if ventilation shaft in the aerial lol....

Will eat humble pie in two weeks so! But I doubt it

    Hi
Anyone help me here, When I go to sat channels on my ariva 150 some channels have a € symbol along side and those channels can only be accessed by keying in the channel no on the keypad. When you scroll on the up/down key it skips from channel 11 to 13 for example

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,346 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Just to clarify I said i did not stock the ferguson branded dongle, there are many other brands that use the ralink spec that is used by the ariva on ebay etc and you can also use a network cable. . I would never advise anyone to buy this box just for watching you tube, there are far easier ways to achieve this.
