Penalty Points Question

Earlier today i stupidly spoke on the phone while driving, I then drove past 2 members of the gardai who were on foot at the time. I dropped the phone and drove past them. However it appeared that one of the gardai was taking note of my registration. So My question is, will I be getting a fine and penalty points or do they have to pull me over or make an attempt to pull me over.

They'd have to pull you over and formally caution & ticket you.

Car kits are so cheap these days that even one ticket would pay for it twice over. Not to mention the fact that no one can't concentrate on driving if your talking and holding a phone at the same time. I just wish people would stop being so pedantic and just get a car kit or switch it off.

Thanks so much, this has certainly given me the scare to get one. It's I rarely do it. But if they are on foot would they have had to wave me down?

Yeah. Honestly your over thinking it I feel. On foot they're not really going to be watching traffic unless they are specifically doing tax and insurance. Think about it your way, if your walking on a street, can you even see the driver of every car let alone what they are doing? Its tough to keep a track of everything in your immediate environment.

Its unlikely they even noticed you and the action of writing something down was unrelated (Lunch order etc ;) )

ok ok thanks very much, you've helped calm the nerves anyway. well they were next to an aldi so they could have have been sent down doing the groceries and adding something to the list haha. The ultimate irony to it all is that I was on my way home from sending away for the full licence.

"Well Mam well Dad my licence came with two free points! Lucky me!" But seriously I will invest in a handsfree.

I have 6 points on my license and recently received notification of speeding at road works.
Is it possible to say that a friend from UK was driving my car and therefore have the points kicked into touch so to speak ?

Don't think so. I'd guess that your imaginary friend would have to accept them otherwise they will go to the registered owner. Too many played this hand in the past.

Thanks for your advice but it would not be an imaginary friend.
It is just a case of finding which one of my many UK friends will say they were driving
I know I am going out on a limb here but could the gardai investigate wheather my UK friend was in the country at the time.
I would normally pay this fine and accept the points but having 8 points is a bit dodge.

"A bit dodge" is still better than a very obvious and illegal deception though.

Jaysus good luck with that. its entirely illegal and could land you in a lot of trouble. if you were snapped by a Gatso and then can identify you in the picture you could be in serious hot water.
