    Hi there,

the wipers on my 03 ford transit connect stopped working recently. THe motor is still working and the linkage seems to be fine. the connection between the linkage and the wiper arms seem to have come away or worn or something. what is the part i am looking for here? is it easy fix myself? dont want to be paying a mechanic a fortune to fix what seems like a small enough job.

ps. driving in the rain can be done! :D

Do one or both wipers move up and down the screen by hand?

Be really careful with wipers, disconnect battery when working on linkages.

When you move one does the other move?

Sounds like the nut holding the motor shaft onto the linkage may have come loose. I think you need to remove the two wiper arms and the plastic shroud underneath to get at it. As colm said, be really careful, making sure to disconnect the battery before putting your hands in there. The linkage could quite literally take your finger off.

is there a special type of bolt or connection i should be looking for if it has worn. is that what wiper linkage bushings are?

From what you describe, I'd be expecting to find either a loose bolt allowing the motor to turn without operating the linkage or a broken part in the linkage itself. Bushings are rubber doughnuts that allow a little movement/vibration between attached parts - it doesn't sound like they're your problem.
