From reading a good few posts here people have said duct tape over cracks etc on a bumper is passable and I've my doubts so passing this information onto my brother he's approached me with this....

    Passable?

Obviously a before and after

Doubtful IMO. Too many sharp pointy bits for a pedestrian to get injured with. It's worth putting it through all the same - a retest on that is going to be a free visual anyway.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be swiped by the corner of that. It could be the difference between a bruise and horrible leg injuries.

Might pass, might not. The crack is very very big so I'd suspect they'll fail it.
Are you looking to replace bumper from a breakers?

To be fair that's just plain dangerous.

Yeah he's been looking in breakers for a while now but to no avail and he's looked into buying a new bumper and getting it sprayed but the prices after is getting sprayed etc is just madness, is the car even worth it? :o

As far as being swiped by a car, speaking from a professional, medical point of view... being "swiped" by a car leaving bruises? I've never heard of someone being left with just a bruise and thats over a fairly long pre-hospital care career. However I'm not arguing that it's safe, god knows its not but if it just goes through the NCT its being replaced the second a bumper shows up shows up so if anyone of ye know of one in the Munster region he's more than happy to take it!

Also thanks for the replies lads I appreciate it :)

I had a rust hole before in an old car, about 2 inch in diameter and I covered it with duck tape, I was advised to do it as they won't take the tape off incase they do more damage, but yours is considerably bigger than a little rust hole.

About 15 times the size of a rust hole! :pac:

It was actually a mechanic whos own car went through like this that put my brother onto doing it. I just researched on here and googled around a bit and saw some people got away with it others were told they bring disgrace to the building!

Well now you have. I had a sore, bruised arse for a while after, but aside from my pride nothing else was damaged! :p

That's just dangerous. Even a mismatched bumper from the scrappy would do. The NCT don't care what colour it is.

It is indeed. Could you stick a bumper back on with this stuff though...?

Just put it through with the tape on and see how you get on. If you fail it will only be a visual re-tests and will be free of charge.

Not that I'd imagine any of you care but, the car passed like that =/
