Best ACCA route

    Hi,
Could I get some advice on the best ACCA subjects to do together please.

I am awaiting F5 & F6 results tonight. I am expecting a very good result in F6 and a very bad one in F5!
    I don't fancy doing F5 straight away again so my options are F7, F8 & F9.
I will only try two of these subjects at the one time.

Did anyone do two of these together and find that they work well together or did they do two together and find that they don't work well together?

Also, any advice on what lecturers to go for would be helpful as well because I did my F5 & F6 in DBS and I found one lecturer excellent and one terrible.
Won't take a genius to work out which is which!

    Thanks in advance

was exempt from f9 so cant comment. but i think f7 and f8 will work well. one theory and one numerical.
dave o'd in independent would be good for both. Only had him for f7. had cormac in dbs for f8. was ok too.
would recommend sitting f5 again if the worst comes to the worst- just a personal thing but i think after another 6 months+ you wont remember a lot of the stuff and will be like starting from scratch again but thats just me.

but im sure you wont need to worry. best of luck tonight!

I'd agree with Keano12, F7 & F8 would go well together, F7 is nasty (I struggled with it & it was Dave O'Donoghue in Independent who finally got me over the line).

F8 is all theory (hence it goes well with F7), Sean Browne is good for F7 (if he's still doing it, he's quirky, but you remember his mnemonics/stories which is what you need in that subject). He was lecturing in City Colleges.

I did f7 and f9 in the recent setting. I found they worked well as there is some overlap. F9 is 50/50 calc and theory

I home studied f8 as it is theory and is fine. I couldnt go to class for someone to just do theory

Home studied f9 too and was doable with help from open tuition

I went to dave o d for f7 and you either like him or not. I didn't. I went based on recommendations here but he is not my type of lecturer
O found he got confused a lot. Plan to go back to independent for p2 but that is a different lecturer

My advise is to structure your exams so that you can take P2 the session immediately following F7. It's much easier not to have to relearn all the F7 stuff before getting to the P2 material.

If you had issues with F5 most likely you'll have problems with F9 also both require a level of problem solving rather than the identify then apply the correct accounting treatment that you have in the financial accounting papers.

I have sat F7 twice. Once with Dave O'D in Independent and once with Gerry Fahy in DBS. I preferred Gerry, he has a slightly more unorthadox style of teaching but it suited me fine! I can see why people praise Dave O'D, he's not the head of the Accountancy faculty in Indie for nothing but i found Gerry's classes more interesting.

    Thanks everyone.

Mixed views so I suppose it's down to people's perception of each lecturer.

I somehow got 66% in F5 (I genuinely do not know how but I'll take it and run) and 65% in Tax so onwards and upwards.

I seen another post in a different thread about Gareth Mulvin ??
Anyone have him as a lecturer before?

Gerry Fahy is very, very good. His pass rates and placings are very high. Follow his study plan to the letter and you are laughing.

I did a 1 day revision class with Gareth Mulvin before, I liked his style, would go to a full course with him.

I would second what statss said about Garret Mulvin. I did F7 & F9 with him. He is excellent.
Will be going back to him for P2

I did F9 and just got P2 with him and I couldn't recommend him enough. My only complaint is he doesn't do any options cos I would pick them for his lectures alone. He is brilliant.

    Hey guys,

I have done 2 courses with Gareth mulvin and could not recommend him highly enough. Does any know if he is still lecturing in ICBF or where is he?

    Cheers

ICBF rebranded as First Intuition and moved to the old BPP building. Garett is still there.
