I seem to remember a few weekends ago on the Sunday Game the panel were reviewing the incident after the Tyrone & Kildare qualifier where the referee for some reason had to walk back through the crowd of Kildare fans and thus had to be escorted by Gardí.

The panel were discussing how poorly managed this was and at the time Joe asked something like "What happened? Did he get a slap?". Des Cahill/ Ciaran Whelan said "No I don't think so" and Brolly said "That's a pity" and had a little giggle to himself.

Cahill, clearly a bit disturbed by the quip quickly moved on.

So, what kind of man, a GAA man, a solicitor, a man who accuses others of being less of a man for their behaviour, jokes that a referee should have been slapped?

Is that the kind of man Joe would like to go for a pint with?

Unfortunately RTE player no longer has the programme and Joe refuses to answer any questions about it on his twitter. Anyone out there have it recorded??

And you're bringing this up weeks later because?

Like you said, it was a "joke". Maybe in bad taste but a joke nonetheless.

And the referee in question was Joe McQuillan.

It's called a character assassination-these comments were fine by Joe until they suited the OPs needs

Weeks ago Joe Brolly hadn't made the comments he had about Sean Cavanagh or any other player.

If you're going to question someone's integrity you need to be pretty sure your own's irreproachable.

He made plenty of comments that were a disgrace about Paul Grimley earlier in the season.

Anyway, I can't see the purpose of this thread.

you're joking right? he hasnt made any comments on any other player? like calling gooch a choker? or many other of his comments on many more players every year since he has been doing punditry?

nonsense thread. made a flippant remark as an obvious joke. far more things you could have used to try degrade him, this wasnt one of them.

Yes he had and he has made loads of controversial comments- I bet you even agreed with some but now when your county are insulted- you are throwing the toys out
