I intend to do the CELTA course next year part time as I am working. I would like to get a feel for teaching first before i sign up as it is quite expensive, so I would like to know if it is possible to teach English on a voluntary basis at night or at the weekend.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can do this? Thanks.

Where are you based? I know Cavan and Monaghan Vecs or now ETB have voluntary literacy tutors for adult education. It could be something to look into for a bit of experience I would assume most other Vecs would do it too.

have a look at www.volunteer.ie and check out the listings under education and literacy

offer free grinds to school kids or english lessons to non-english speakers and advertise locally

contact the VEC about adult education and literacy tuition, and ask in schools, libraries and community centres about any youth groups or homework clubs you could help out in :)
