    OK so here's the deal:

I have the most up to date version of iTunes on my Windows laptop. It has an entire music library and two peoples iPhone's plus my own backed up to it.

I'm changing laptops from Windows - MAC in a couple of days.

    1) How do I 'move' my iTunes library from my old laptop to my new MacBook?

    2) Can I permanently delete my current iTunes from my old laptop as I am selling it and I want everything cleaned off it.

I have no idea 'if' I can do either of the above.

I have looked at this already but I don't know what method to use, which would you go for.

I'm tempted by the Windows Migration Assistance but I just wish there was something more straight forward.

Is there anyway say if I download a 'new' version of iTunes onto my new computer and then sync my iPhone with it that it would all just back-up from my phone onto the new iTunes? Or would that be wishful thinking?

Migration Assistant is probably the most straight forward. It won't work the way you are suggesting, it will wipe your phone.

You could always try moving the itunes folder from your windows machine to your new mac.
Then just remap itunes to the new folder by holding down alt on launch and choosing the new location of the folder.

But as another poster said, Windows Migration Assistant is possibly the best and easiest automated way of doing it.

When I copied the itunes folder to a new location I also had to map the iTunes Library.itl file. Without this, itunes will list the music but will not be able to locate the files.

When launching itunes, hold shift on windows and option on mac to map the itl.

Selecting the "itunes" folder is more than enough in this case TKO.

You should be able to just move it across by external drive. When you copy it to the mac. Point itunes to the folder. Authorise the mac for the itunes account that you used on your last computer. All your songs , iphone data should be fine.

As per the link further up this thread, use an external drive. i did this shouldnt give you too much bother

I am so, so bad. I don't even know what an external drive is, like useless, useless. I'll take a random guess at a memory stick or am I way out?

no a memory stick is a type of external drive. You can use one, you just need to make sure that there is enough storage on it

if you bought all of your music from iTunes then it will be available to download from iTunes in the cloud on to your new mac, assuming you will continue with the same itunes/apple ID

I had a similar problem I ended up losing all my music from cd's etc.

Hate iTunes its so user unfriendly my Mrs had issues backing up her phone also, she wanted to move from iCloud cos her account was full. still haven't figured it out.
