    I believe the correct answer is E based on the following reasoning,

    The 5 in-sequence images given contain 20 dots in the following config;

    Upper row: 10 dots, 10 dots, 8 dots, 8 dots, 12 dots
    Lower row: 10 dots, 10 dots, 12 dots, 12 dots, 8 dots

    Based on this reasoning the next image in the sequence needs 20 dots (12 on the upper row and 8 on the lower row).
