Exterior tiles for doorstep

I've a concrete doorstep and looking to dress it up a bit with some tiles or something similar, I've seen some exterior tiles that are apparently "non slip" but I'm not at all convinced, some are ok and some are really slip when wet. Anyone got any suggestions on what I could use? Would slate be a bad idea?
