Could be worth trying Pirtek or a local hose fitters.

    www.thinkauto.com
You can get M22x1.5 to 1/2" push on fittings and make your own hoses up.

£88 plus VAT for the fittings alone, then the hose... thats actually more expensive than BMW!? :(

    EDIT:
Above was using 45degree angle fittings which seem way more expensive, using the following mix:

    1- straight M22 to 1/2"
    1- 45degree M22 to 1/2"
    2- 90degree M22 to 1/2"

plus 2metres of Aeroquip FC332 in AN -8 format (which is correct for 1/2fitting I gather?)

Im at £80 plus shipping, which is reasonable.

Only worry is this reply I got from Merlin Motorsport:
Sorry we would not be able to do that. We would not have any fitting that would go to the M22 on your cooler, it is not so much the thread as the seat system on that fitting that we can not replicate.

Could be onto a winner, I sent them an email to confirm fittings and sealing rings needed etc.

call into a motorfactors that make hydraulic hoses or a plant fitter might have the gear in the van, they,ll be black rubber hoses instead of the nicely braided ones thou

The problem isnt the hose, its the M22 female/male fittings!

Went to a supplier/disti to Pirtek, got my hose out of the car, the new rad. He recognised the fitting, said its a type of inverted flange (or flare, cant quite recall), hasnt been used in over 15years. He said BMW switched to proper DIN fittings back then, this part isnt any actual standard, but something BMW used. He said Id be better off buying the parts from BMW or failing that, weld on some BSP 1/2" fittings of the same light alloy type metal (which I cant identify). Nightmare of a mess now it is, car cant be driven until this is fixed.

Went to Kilcock Auto dismantlers, no BMWs there old enough and only one M car (its a common radiator on M cars), but it was too new (E46 M3).

Here are better shots of the fitting and the inner seal design, apart, you can see the bevel for the O-ring on the M22 male fitting on the right and the length of the shaft on the fitting on the left of the image:

Connected, nut not fastened down and rubber O-Ring not installed, but you get the idea:

    EDIT: Plan B
Buy an E30 Oil cooler used on Ebay for £50, cut impossible to source fittings off, have hydraulic oil place mount nice new hose onto metal piping from fitting, paint and install, done.

Hyd hoses are measured in 16ths of an inch. So you're right, a half inch hose is a -8

If it was me I would cut the old ends off your hoses. Get two JIC or metric ends and braise them to your original ends

If its an oil cooler it's only very low pressure. I've done the above on 10bar airlines that have been driven over by trucks and survived. Just make sure there's not a tint if oil on them or the brass won't take

I dont really have old hoses to use, the rubber parts between the fittings were cut and one of the fittings welded direct to the radiator.

What I have now, as I sourced another metal pipe end + correct fitting is:
    • 4 correct M22 fittings, with the OEM bent metal piping end pieces
    • need someway of attaching a rubber hose between these fittings, one 90cm and one 50cm

Its been running for 5years with a hose pushed over the welded fitting and secured with 2 hose clamps (not by me), I dont consider this a big ask, but the Hydraulics place I contacted refused to do it as it wasnt kosher.

Said he had no way of attaching a rubber hose to a metal pipe...
Think I might bring the parts to Pirtek as they seemed a bit more open to thinking of a solution.

Can you throw up a pic of the ends you have?

I would imagine if pirtek can't/won't do it find yourself an agri store that make hyd hoses and they will sort it out for you

Pretty much the same as the image in the first post, look at the M22 fittings on the end, imagine 10cm of the metal pipe being left on all 4 points. Just need a nice way of attaching a hose to those piping pieces.
