What is this I found in the sea?

06-08-2013 1:40pm#1Out playing on the sand whilst the tide was out with our toddler, I found what I initially thought were some white stones, but when I went to pick one up, it's consistency was soft, kind of like an old potato or pig skin. :eek:
I then found a much bigger one which was very odd in shape as you can see below.
the only thing I can think is that it might be some kind of soft coral or something?
anyone have any idea what it was?
