My friend have VW Passat B5 , 2001, 1.9 tdi. .. some silly problems with it.

Airbag light was on, when he bought it, typical problem for them, is problem with wire under driver seat, cleared fault codes with wag-com , but light still on dash. scanned again, no faults on scan results, but light on dash still on,... .also other problem with tachometer (getting stuck at 3.5 k rpm), and speedometer fault on scan results also.

Would it be faulty dash, and have to be replaced, and is there somebody who may fix it ?

Also , if we get other speedometer, would I be able adapt it to car with wag-com ?

    Thanks

you won't be able to code the new cluster with VCDS (vag com) you will need another program called VAG TACHO.

Not quite. A brand new cluster can be set up with VCDS (including setting the odometer). A used one will need VAG Tacho for the odometer setup.

any idea how much would cost new cluster ? if compare prices of new on + free adaptation with my vag-com, or buy used one and pay for adaptation somewhere else. Maybe buy myself tacho (for friends money), and then learn how to work with it ? ... one thing is on... NCT this friday, i am afraid - wont pass with airbag light on ...

Also i think immobilizer is connected with it, so it will have to be adapt also.

You'd have to contact a dealer for a new cluster and they may insist on fitting it too. Immobiliser is part of the cluster so yes that will have to be adapted also. There's some information here on VAG immobilisers (the '01 B5 should be immobiliser gen 3): http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer.

With VAG-Tacho, it's possible to copy your original immobiliser configuration over to a new/used cluster. You can get a 3rd party version of VAG-Tacho cheaply enough - it doesn't work that well on newer models, but I think it should be ok on your car. The official one is about €300.
