    Hi all,

My partner when married had a vasectomy. He has children from his marriage which ended 6 yrs ago. I have none. We would really like to have one of our own.
I have had hormone levels checked, and given that all is normal.
Because of the cost of a reversal and not knowing if it will be successful given it's been over 10 years, I am thinking of having further checks done. Reason being that friends have been given all clear on hormonal levels and its only further down the line after not conceiving that they are discovering that there are further complications etc.
I am thinking of getting myself fully checked out - to try ensure no cysts, endometriosis, etc. It will cost a good few grand for a reversal so was hoping to make sure all clear was with me first. I think I don't want to set ourselves up for disappointment.
We are both 40, fit and healthy.
Anyone else been in this or similar situation too that could offer advice.

Honestly? Save your money for ISCI rather than getting yourself checked out. The rates for unexplained infertility are pretty surprising - it just means really that science and technology have not caught up enough to give us more information. So you could spend a couple of thousand on getting yourself checked out and pass with flying colours only to encounter difficulty when you start trying. Or you may have no issues at all and be very fertile. There is simply no way of knowing until you start to try.

Start with a visit to a fertility specialist, ISCI might be the better option for you where they extract the sperm direct from the testes.

Best of luck on your journey - hope its a short one. :)

Whatever you do, do it as quickly as possible.
If money is not a limiting factor, then your best bet might be to skip the vasectomy and go with MESA or if not TESE to extract a usable number of sperm. They would then be frozen to use during an IVFcycle. That cycle would have to be ICSI and again, if money is not a limiting factor, it may be an option to go the extra bit and get IMSI. Other add-ons that may help implantation would be getting an endometrial scratch beforehand and intralipids afterwards, but these would normally only recommended if there was a history of implantation problems. However, at 40 you may not have the luxury of building up a history, so if the clinic is agreeable you should do everything you can as soon as possible. The above course won't leave you with much change out of €10,000 however.

So we have had appointment at SIMS and also seen a consultant urologist re reversal.
Looks like ICSI treatment is being recommended. We had one query we're waiting on rely from but just wondering if anyone knows or has done tesa with IUI. It seem's the use partner or donor sperm for the IUI but we're wonder if they procure the sperm from my partner using TESA can they see that for IUI?
We think it will reduce costs and also allow more money in reserve if we have to do ICSI/reversal or all.
By the way, I've been checked out and all is good with me - 'housing is good', etc. so thus query above. many thanks in advance if anyone can help.
