Irish 'Celeb' Wrestling Fans?

Random one for you guys: does anyone know of any Irish 'celebs' that are vocal wrestling fans? TV, radio stars, musicians, anyone really.

There are plenty in the UK and US, but I'm drawing a blank when it comes to over here. I've heard 98FM's Ray Foley play The Undertaker's music plenty of times, but I think he's just an old school fan who doesn't keep up with today's product. Just something that came up in conversation recently and I can't think of anyone...

David Coffey, the guy from Dan and Becs and writes for RTE, used to work for The Wrestling Channel and was the ring announcer for IWW at their first 'Supershow' event (jesus, what year was that? 2004?). He still Tweets about wrestling a good bit I think.

Not sure if he counts as a 'fan', but Ross Browne is a stand up comedian and a cast member of RTE's 'The Fear', he's a former NWA tag champ and current trainer for CCW down in Cork I believe?

Those are two from the top of my head anyway. Neither are really proper 'celebs' or house hold names though I guess, but they were as good as I could think of! :)

    Good shouts!

Yeah it's weird. Like I'm sure there are plenty, as I explain to non-wrestling fans it's the type of thing you'll have all kinds from kids to bank managers interested in, but I think the Irish celeb scene is so paper thin that they're almost afraid of admitting it in public. A bit sad on their parts but so it goes...

Wrestling just has an image of being really trashy TV, like Real Housewifes or Big Brother or something, which is mostly justified really. While sometimes it reaches the lofty heights of performance art, most of the time its just throwaway fun at best, and total garbage at worst. Take this week's Impact for example. For every exciting AJ Styles/Austin Aries match, there's Mr. Anderson scratching himself like his leather jacket has been infested while Tito Ortiz stares at him for some reason. There's a reason most of our mates think we're eijits for liking it.

I get what you're saying, wrestling can be cringe-inducing at times even when you love it, but I also think you're giving people too much credit by coming up with excuses to be ashamed of it. I mean, nobody had any problems admitting they were wrestling fans in 1999, and Mae Young gave birth to a hand then.

It's always been cheesy, but there have been several periods when people have come out of the closet as fans en masse or jumped on the bandwagon regardless. So I think it's more a case that people are deathly afraid of what people think and keep their fandom to themselves, celebs in particular since what people think about them is their business.

Dan Hegarty of 2fm used to be a big wrestling fan but I don't think he is anymore.

Ok, not exactly an a-lister, but Eoin McDevitt (formerly of Off The Ball on Newstalk) is a genuinely HUGE wrestling fan. He often talked about it on air. Cool dude too.

Those 2 guys on the breakfast show on Beat 102 are or at least used to be big wrestling fans, as they would discuss the big ppvs for a few mins on the monday morning after it.

Seems to be a lot of DJ's listed here! :pac: Never thought of it before, but I can see why people in the broadcasting/radio business would enjoy pro wrestling.

Continuing on the DJ theme, Ritchie McCormack from Phantom is also a huge fan (even interviewed Foley on the morning show a few year ago)

Not Irish I know, but a try scorer in the third test for the British and Irish Lions, Alex Corbisiero is a fan judging by his twitter.

That'd work 10x better had Galway not made a hames of the Championship this year.
