FSA parts in Dublin or new chainset?

So it seems that sometimes the creaking sound from the bottom bracket really is from the bottom bracket. After mine disintegrated today I need a replacement. It's for an entry-level FSA Omega chainset and there is no compatible Shimano or other part, so I'm stuck with the FSA bottom bracket: BB-4000.

I can get one on Wiggle but would like to have it ASAP. Any suggestions on where in Dublin might stock this part?

This is the second time I've replaced this BB, the first began to fail after 5000km. The second one failed after about the same. So I'm wondering if I should cut my losses and switch to Shimano: the alternative would be to buy a new chainset and matching BB.

On CRC the FSA part is twice the price of, say, a 105 Hollowtech II part. A Tiagra chainset isn't very expensive. I would be switching from a triple to a compact, which should be fine for me as I haven't used the small ring on the triple for a long time. The only concern I would have would be about the compatibility of using the triple FD with the compact double, but apart from limit screw and indexing adjustment are there any other concerns?

Firstly.... Cycle superstore nearly always have fsa bb's... They just don't ave them on the web site
Regarding the fd on shimano... Triple mech will work just fine with some tuning..
You'll have to shorten your chain too remember...

CycleBike (on Mary's Abbey) replaced an FSA ring on one of my bikes a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately no one has it in stock.

For reference I could have bought the part from CRC for €49, which is very expensive considering the complete lack of quality, but I can get a new Shimano BB and chainset for €99 from Cyclesuperstore delivered overnight.

Follow-on question. Tiagra front shifters work for both double and triple chainsets. When setting up the shifter for a double chainset do I:

    1. Set it so the lowest position on the shifter corresponds to the smallest ring? In this case the uppermost position of the shifter will be unused and blocked by the upper limit screw.

    2. Set it so the highest position on the shifter corresponds to the largest ring? In this case the lowest position on the shifter will be unused. The position will be blocked by the lower limit screw but I guess the shifter will still shift down and feed-out cable.

    Thanks.

Just to follow-up since someone in the future may encounter a similar issue.

In the end I went for a standard double (52/39) since this was all that was available from the shop at short notice. The setup with the triple front mech was fine, if a little tricky. I needed to adjust it mech upwards so that cage could clear the outer ring. There's only a few mm of clearance but this is supposed to be the best position for good gear changes. A new chain was required since the front chainring was larger.

Overall the new setup works well. The new Shimano BB and chainset feels better (more solid) than the original FSA triple and I've saved a bit of weight as well. Front gear changes are cleaner and rear changes seem to be a bit snappier as well, perhaps this is due to a better chainline.

TBH, you're better off replacing the front derailleur as well - a Tiagra one can be had for about €15 from CRC or the likes. I converted a FSA triple to a double and tried to leave the triple FD in place - it didn't work out for me, no end of adjusting could keep it rubbing. But maybe you'll have better luck! The Tiagra shifter will work effortlessly with the double FD if you do change it.
