Wouldn't spend big money on it, these can be a money pit.

Good engine but brakes can lead to expensive fillings issues especially with the closed centre hydraulics.

oh so big money to fix if that happened,

what do you see this worth nashman then

8500hrs, tyres 60%, brakes good, good condition

what do run at the mo? those big JD's can be a curse if work needs to be done and parts are expensive.

what do you plan on using it for? haulage, tillage, slurry? they are simple enough yoke and dont have fancy electric gearboxesso are a good alround tractor.

You must get it for a few days trial, and work it hard, using all the hydraulic functions. Things can show up when she gets hot, that will never occur when lightly used. If he will not agree to this, run. Make sure there are no leaks from the steering system where the ram runs in the front axle housing. This is almost impossible to solve. If a few days ploughing or power harrowing or pulling big trailers of grain show up no problems, you should be all right. These models are rising in value at the moment, but anything under €10k, depending on the tyres, should be about the mark. A new set of decent wide tyres will set you back the guts of €4000.

Watch out for shuddering type movements from the rear 3 point lift, steering slowing up, chattering from the hyd. pump (can be a cheap fix if its just the rubber coupling, or stroke valve) Hi-Lo changing up/down on its own accord . Check it comes out of 4wd properly. Check the PTO works properly.

Hopefully it has a Dromone hitch.

Agree with all of the above - €10k is probably plenty for it.

For that kind of power, I'd prefer a Ford 7810 but then you are swapping complicated hydraulics for rust :(

ok thanks but no many are going to give you a few days trial with the tractor its a "wide step" model too which he says makes it worth more, wants €11000 for it, no dromone hitch

at least you need to get it for a 15 mile drive, see how the hydraulic operate at the end of it..if he says no, walk away. for a little more you Will pick up a 6600 deer or a case 5140

why does the "wide step" make the tractor alot more value

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭iverjohnston

last of the series, before the chassis range.

It shouldn't add that much to it though and it also means that it has the awkward push up/pull down differential lock.

I'd love one of them 50 series John Deeres. I drove one when I was a young lad and its the one tractor that stuck in my mind as being a class yoke to have

see them asking up to 2000stg more in the UK for them, seems to will be a classic in years to come

Get a good one, and it will be a great tractor. Get a dog, and you would be better to burn it! The big step models command a higher price. I think they were all "high lift" models, and some of the very last came with digital dashes, etc. You will notice that Deere did a bit of cost cutting as the range went on. Cab cladding, door handle, side window handles, exhaust stack etc. All got cheaper and nastier as the range changed from the 40 series to the 50 series. Have spent the last few weeks driving a neighbours Case 5140. Not as nice to drive, I think, but you do get a bullet proof Cummins turbo engine, and 4 power shifts in each range. And 2 doors. And that is coming from a "green disease" sufferer!

High lift like 40km/hr was an option across the range.

The 3650 May have High Lift as standard but I'm not sure on that.

The exporters don't seem to favour these as much as the blue or terracottas from the same era.

Do the 4cylinder 50 series deeres have a similar hydraulic system to the six cylinder tractors

Yes indeed - all closed centre hydraulics.

cant you put these 3650s up to 160hp without doing any harm by tweaking the injector pump or somthing like that i think

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭iverjohnston

Personally I think the drivetrain/hydraulic system of the 3650 was at the limit of its capabilities at about 116hp. this is the same basic design as the 3120 . screw it up to 160 if you like, a few of us will come over and help you gather up the pieces when she goes bang..................

If you want 160hp in a long nose, SG2 shape, buy a 4440.

spoke to a dealer today and the JD 3650 wide step models are worth €1500 plus than a standard model but than another guy told me that its nonsense and these steps are easy fitted to any 3650/3350.
    What is the right story

Check the differential engagement, it is a turn knob lever on the late models which are wide step models.

Both are correct in their own way!

ok so are there any other way to tell the genuine wide step to the one that had it just fitted,

The serial number can also tell you but I don't know where that is and from which number for these.
