Failed the NCT but the work has been done HOWEVER I will be away for the next few weeks and wont be here to be able to do the retest which means a whole new test BUT on the NCT website I cant book a new test only a retest within the alloted time but I wont be here.
Will I have to ring them in the morning (wanted to get a printout in that a retest/test has been booked in case I was stopped)
    TIA

Can't you get friend to take it in for you?

(Print-out may not help you as you are only entitled to drive a car with no NCT to/from the test or to a garage for repir)

May just book and cancel. Then rebook as soon as I hit Irish soil again.

Any country you go to you must have a road worthiness cert for the car your in.
If you're stopped they'll go through you.

    Yeap...
Bit risky to drive abroad in not-NCTed car.

    That's not true.
There is no leeway allowing anyone to drive car with expired NCT to the test centre.

Rest is kinda true - once you fail NCT test, you can drive for the rest of the day - i.e. to find a garage which will fix your car.

Thanks for the advice but with regarding to trying to book a test beyond the 'scope' of a retest...

you ain't biking a retest if it's not within the 30 days.
full test has months waiting in Dublin anyway so what's the prob?
