New Qashqai but which one?

I'm kinda sniffing about the new car scene and have dome a bit of research on crossovers. I keep coming back to the Qashqai mainly because of Nissan's "Nissan Go" finance scheme which simply makes the car affordable to me anyway.

I commute about 40 miles (20 each way) on country roads for work each day, I might do a bit of driving at weekends 100-300 miles. I'm fairly tall 6'5" so the idea of kthe crossover appeals to me as I imagine a bit more room in the drivers seat.

So I guess my first question is petrol or diesel ? I know diesels suit higher mileage but brand new might be a safer bet ? Also the mpg rating is so much better over petrol models. But I'd love to hear opinions on this and am open to good advice.

Second question, which engine and which spec ? Is the SV+ worth the extra few grand over the XE in your opinion?

There's a new cashcow being 'unveiled' in Sept - I'm holding off making a decision until I see it. Leaning towards an ix35 atm though.

I'd wait for the new model which is arriving later this year, the current model has been around since 2007 and showing it's age now.

The current (facelifted in 2010) one has a fairly decent equipment options compared to the those out last year; a sure sign of trying to sell off old stock to make room for the new model. 360 (top down parking view), half leather weren't even options last year, now they're on the top spec. Generally, if you don't care about not having the latest model of a car, you can get good value on the (soon to be) previous shape, closer to (and after) the time of the launch. I've driven the +2 in 1.5diesel and it's very sluggish (but economical; 55-60 mpg on long motorway spins), the 1.6 petrol is a bit nippier (bear in mind that this is a bit heavier than the 5-seater) but less frugal (40-45 mpg on motorway runs). There is a 1.6 4X4 diesel but I've not driven it.

Your mileage - is that 40miles each way, or 40 miles home to work and home again? Your post isn't clear. Even if you're doing the lower bound if what you day (200 during the week +100 at weekend), with an annual mileage of 15000 then diesel is probably the better bet for you. The 1.5d is €1500 more than the same spec petrol, and the 1.6d is €1500 more again.

The new one looks better than the current one (some unoffical shots here: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/nissan/qashqai/63525/new-nissan-qashqai-2014-release-date-price-rumours), but as said above, I like the look of the ix35 or the Sportage as well.

Many thanks, I hadn't realised that. Just been into town and stopped off at a KIA lot. I really like the look of the Sportage. I doubt I could afford one though.

I should also point out that I currently drive an old car that will have almost no trade in value, so the Nissan deal is one of the few I can afford as far as I can tell.

Had a Kia Sportage for 3 years without a hitch. Great car. I have now decided to go for a Qashqai+2 for the extra seats. I have seen the new model X-trail and the new Qashqai will be the same and I prefer the old Qashqai 360 styling.;)

I would prefer one of these too but the new Santa Fe is a impressive machine.

Built on the same production line as the Kia Sportage but Sportage is a far better looking car , in fact its the best looking SUV on the road ;)

TBH I set myself a budget - did like the kia better but not enough to spend the extra €€s.. Ended up getting an immaclate 2012 ix35 and saved myself 10k so happy with my decision ;)

I've done some reading on all these crossover type vehicles, and from what I can gather, the best of the bunch is the Mazda CX-5, especially the 2.2l diesel model. Only problem with the car is that it's a new line so there is very little option apart from a brand new purchase. And according to motoring journalists, the Japanese yen has been performing poorly so the price in the west remains uncompetitive.

It's a shame. I might just hold out for a year and look for a model with 10-20k on the clock. It's a beautifully specc'd vehicle. Much more offered in the cabin in terms of toys. A bit more power too in the 2.2l diesel. I'm told the 148BHP diesel is more than enough, so much so that the 170BHP is almost redundant. So it's better specc'd, nippier and even has a full size spare wheel :)

Anyone shopping around for a crossover, I'd advise that you at least read a few reviews of this vehicle.

Really like the Kodo design language on the 6 and the 3, can't say I like that at all. No doubt it will be bullet proof in terms of reliability though. Had a look at the spec sheet, seems good on the high end, but you know you'll just be dealing with the bog standard with 4 speaker sounds system unless you go to the UK.

    You've lost me here

    Kodo design language ???
    6 and 3 ???
Do you like or dislike, you start with "really like" and ends with "can't say I like that at all".
