UPC/Sky Digital/Analogue Set-Up

Just looking for a bit of advice re: the parents house and their cable/Satellite set-up.

At present they have Sky Digital coming in through the wall in the front living room and also have a UPC cable coming into the house for a basic UPC box (see image).

The reason from what I can remember they have the basic UPC box is because in the old kitchen part of the house there is what I can only assume to be an analogue box/cable :confused:(see image).

My Mum would watch TV off this connection into the back of the tv and from what I can gather if they cancelled UPC and got them to take the box out of the living room she would be unable to get any of the channels (e.g. BBC,UTV,CH4) etc in the kitchen from the above point in the wall.

Can anyone confirm if this would be the case? As it seems a bit of waste having the UPC box in the living room just so we can get a UPC signal to the kitchen.

It wouldn't even be possible to bring the UPC box into the kitchen for her.

    Thanks

That second picture shows what appears to be a Schuko plug plugged into a two pin adapter. This is dangerous as the earth slides on the side of the plug will not make contact. Before you do anything either get a proper Schuko adapter or (preferably) cut the Schuko plug off and fit a proper 13 amp 3 pin plug.

You could take an RF feed from the Sky box to the kitchen though the same channel could only be watched in each room.

just for clarity, the Sky box and the UPC digital box are in the same room and there is a UPC (analogue) TV point in the kitchen?

If they cancel their UPC subscription then most likely the UPC cable connection to the house will be disconnected and so no UPC analogue or digital signal at any TV point.

You should be able to use the UPC digital box in the kitchen, what type of connector in on the rear of the UPC box - push-in co-ax connector or screw-on F-connector? If screw-on F-connector you can use one of these fly leads between the wall socket and UPC box.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Yes the Sky & UPC digital box are in the same room and there is an old UPC/NTL analogue point in the kitchen.

This cable below in the first pic is coming in from the outside of the house and into the UPC box and in the second pic is a picture of the connector.

I would simply move the UPC box from the sitting room to the kitchen, disconnect the co-ax cable from the rear of the TV in the kitchen and plug it into the UPC box, then connect the UPC box to the TV via scart and test it out.

I tried the above but I got the below message, I even disconnected everything after 15-20 minutes of the message and tried again but got the same message. :( Any ideas?

    "IMPORTANT

Please do not switch off you set-top box
Your digital TV service is being upgraded.
This may take a few minutes
TV services will be resumed when the upgrade is complete.

    Update status:
Searching for setup information - Stage 3 (this alternates between stage 1 -4)
    Engineering code = MSG11 (alternates between 11 & 12)"

Did you retry it at its original position in the living room?

Seems to be stuck in some sort of update mode, I wonder if it was doing an update when it was moved from the other room?

You should post the question over in the Cable fourm - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=54 and the Talk to UPC forum - http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1546
