Applications folder

I'm trying to do a little bit of reorganising on my mac and one thing I have a problem with is the applications folder.
When I click on the applications icon on my sidebar, all of my applications show up. When I click on the applications folder in the Microsoft HD icon, they are all there.
However, when I click on the applications folder that's in the icon with my username on the sidebar, there's only one application.

Is there an apps folder I don't need there or can I drag and drop all of my apps in to that folder too?

The main application folder on Macintosh HD is where all Apps go. they are seen in all user accounts.
The application folder in your user folder seems to be only specific to your user account only.this would not be accessible in other user accounts you may have on your mac.

hope that helps clarify it. :)
