Have heard the mines are tough alright, certainly doesn't suit everyone. But definitely seems to be plenty of demand for labour for agricultural jobs over there, esp for someone like yourself with experience. So I'd say don't waste your time in Australia doing a job you don't like, go look around for a better job.

And on the 18acres, hmm your lucky the banks etc weren't stupid enough to let you buy it, trust me its much easier to walk away from a bad job in the mines than a mortgage for say 180grand, that has almost no potential to ever pay back for itself.

Their is alot better things to do in aussie land than working 12 hour shifts in mines for a bit of land, life is short enjoy it while you can

Have a chat with the neighbour, let him know your predicament, maybe he'd put off the sale for a couple of years if you rented it off him in the mean time.
