More New Channels On The Way

Ofcom have published a list of some new channels to get broadcasting licences, among them are 3 interesting ones...

    Channel 4+1 HD
    4Seven HD
    5 Later

So, the first +1 HD channel is coming soon, along with a HD variant of a channel which is essentially a +1 or 2 day variant.

No word on what 5 Later is but I'm guessing it's a 4Seven type channel but for Channel 5. They do have some unused hours on their streams where programmes can't be shown for legal reasons etc. so maybe it's a late night filler channel. Who knows.

On the way where? Sky FTV? Freesat? Freeview?

Freeview initially, but they'll also be satellite versions too for Sky and Freesat. I imagine they will all be FTA too so can be added to any set-ups when they arrive later in the year.

Not sure about cable, but they'd be silly not to!

    FTA - great news.

Not really new channels are they?

Just same shows an hour later.

Still better than more shopping, dolly bird chat lines and god botherers.

Same shows, an hour later, or a day or two later, but at least now if you miss the original showing, you don't have to miss out on seeing it in HD. I hate recording things on the +1 channel if I miss the original showing as the quality is awful. At least now I won't mind recording on +1 as it will still be in HD or even good quality upscaled.

No news yet on what 5 Later is though, it could be anything, not just a catch-up service.

even if these channels launch free to air they may not be addable to the irish 'add channels' function just like Film 4 HD and Channel 5 HD is right now.....

But they should work great for Freesat.
