    Hi All,
I am looking for some good off road running trails in Co. Clare. 6k to 10k distances ideally. I have tendonitis in both knees and road running would be too severe on them so would really appreciate any help in locating running trails with a bit of give in the ground. Thanks

Hi - I don't know where you are in Clare but check out some of the walks/trails on www.coillteoutdoors.ie or on the discover Ireland website at http://www.discoverireland.ie/CMSPages/PortalTemplate.aspx?aliaspath=%2fSearch%2fResults&lcid=2&catid=10098&areaid=2675 Might also be worth searching Tipperary if you are on that side

There is actually an IMRA hill run in Cratloe Woods tonight (8km). I'm sure there would be plenty of people there who could advise you.

You could try the Burren Way. I ran 9k out and 9k back along the cliffs of Moherlast week on a small part of the Burren Way. Its mostly recently maintained. Starts about 5k south of the viewing points. There are several other walking routes around Clare but I haven't been on them.

Thanks all for the replys. The IMRA runs look enjoyable. Kicking myself for missing the one in cratloe last night. Thanks Gerry Hat Trick for the coillte link. Has good information on its trails in the county. Bludub i must try that Burren way trail run. Could you give more details on where you got on the trail. 18k might be a bit beyond me yet but id imagine that it is a fairly scenic run?

There's a trail from Doolin and other villages to Cliffs of Moher. It's spectacular. Range from 6/8km and 20km.

I ran from Doolin to the cliffs and back and it was all runnable. It’s a dedicated walking trail, with arrows pointing the way. The actual trail is a bit of fireroad and then walking paths similar to Ticknock/Tibradden.

There are a couple of steep sections but they’re short and can be ran, albeit not much quicker than walking pace. If you ever ran to the top of Fairycastle from the aerials at Ticknock, the toughest section is similar to that.

The way back is easy running. It’s a lovely route, as you can see the cliffs from a distance rising out of the sea . Great ice cream cone in the cafe at Doolin too.

The trail head that I started from was near Hags Head. You can park at Kilconnell (South West corner of the trail) on the map in this link http://www.irishtrails.ie/Trail/Burren-Way/7/. You will need to zoom in to find it. I parked at a place where there is a parking area which looks like an extension to a garden! they look for €2 "contribution". This is about 7-800m from Nags head and about 5k from the viewing area near the interpretive centre.
