Like a lot of people silage yield was down this year but quality very good, baled after one day wilt in sun, usually have around 300 bales which often were caught making a bit wet, yield down 90 bales this year.
Do people think the 210 wilted bales will have same feed power as 300 damp ones?

    210 x 500kg bales 10% extra dm = 10,500kg dm extra = 87.5 extra bales @ 24% dm

It all depends what the dm of your bales were last year compared to this year.

The higher quality bale should have more feeding value but that depends on the DM values. If your worried try to have late cut of maybe another 100 if possible or look the buy some straw. We have enough bales made this year for a normal 4 month feeding period but as we were feeding for 8 months last winter I'm gonna make a second cut and buy in some straw too.

I'm feeding fusion made bales at the minute which weigh 750- 800 kg got them tested and their 52%dm

    Shock silage out twice

Made some silage bales that were not for cows so didn't ted out- same weight but only 28dm

So there is twice as much feed in the higher dm bales

Thanks for replies,am lucky to live in Mountainous spot so get plenty of rain!!!...last year cut for silage when forecasters gave a few dry days....of course it pissed rain day we were baling and we stopped for while but finished that eve for fear of ground getting wetter, never test silage but when opening bales last year a wheelbarrow of water came out of each one, cattle ate it all though, little waste and they thrive well on it.
So can't imagine DM was too high.....so I Shud be ok with 210 bales,we typically have 6/7 month winter every bloody year;(

Must be hard for lads with 2/3 month winter to picture having them in for twice that!!
