I've just heard of the sad passing of Bob Galico. A true master at his trade and a legend in many eyes of the radio industry today in Ireland

    RIP

Sad news indeed. I have very fond memories of listening to himself and Declan Meehan on Nova breakfast in the 80s. RIP Bob.

Yes same here, and of course all his excellent news shows etc

He had such a distinctive voice and was always totally professional and streets ahead of the gang at Montrose.

    RIP Bob Gallico

Very sad news indeed. The NOVA breakfast show (which Bob co-presented with Declan Meehan) was always excellent.

I hope the mods won't mind me posting a link to his own page of memoirs : http://www.mediaireland.net/irishpirates/bob.htm

    RIP Bob Gallico

I remember being impressed / amazed that an American with such a cool voice would choose to work in Ireland! He was an integral part of Nova back in the day, sad to hear this news.

Bob's voice for me embodied everything that was exciting and new about commercial independent radio before it became so homogenised. His landmark on the landscape of Irish radio is secure.

Very sad news indeed. He will of course be always remembered for his Breakfast Show on Nova with Declan Meehan but his stints on Energy 103 with Pat Courtenay and Q102 with Scott Williams in the latter part of the 80's deserve a mention too. I hope they both give him a mention tomorrow morning on their respective shows.

    RIP Bob Gallico

Very sad news - Bob was a true legend on Irish Radio - from the Breakfast Show on Nova, his banter with Deccie, songs like busy line/Mr.Telecom man and his racing 'tips' to Classical music shows on Nova (!) and East Coast.

Bob told the story of how he was working for weather-glaze and lucked in on hearing an ad for a news reader on Nova - the rest as they say is history.

Nova-Magic103-Energy103-Q102-Treble TR-Century-East Coast are amongst the stations that Bob was heard on in Ireland and he also appeared on the TV show Ballykissangel.

    RIP

I worked with Bob for a brief period in the 90s before he decided to return to the States. Great memories, a total gentleman and willing advice-giver. May he Rest In Peace.

He did a classical music show on Today FM in its early days.

Am I correct in thinking he was on the short lived Century Radio for a whie ?

In it's Early days Today FM was of course Radio Ireland.

    Still, sad news.

Himself and Declan Meehan presented the evening drivetime show on Century in the early days. He was also involved in Millenium Radio, run by RTE, when it got a 4 month extension to it's run at the start of 1989.

Declan Meehan and Bob put together a special one hour show/documentary at the time called "Say Goodbye to Gallico" which was broadcast on East Coast FM and Country Mix in 2005 to mark the occasion.

I am sad too hear the news of the death of Bob, I remember him well on Nova in the early 80s, his voice was crystal clear and crisp you could hear every word he said, he was a fantastic news reader and presenter way better than Rte at that time Sybll was also a suberb news reader and they often did the Nova News At One which was fantastic too hear, Bob was also great in the mornings on Nova with Declan, as a young fella I used to listen in the morning when having breakfast and heading to school with my pocket MW radio tuned to 819, I meet him once in 1995 in a supermarket doing dj and spoke to him for a while, and he said that Radio Anoraks were lovely people and we talked briefly about Nova, at that time he was on Today Fm, you can still here him on Bobs breki bits tapes that were recorded in the 80s and were available from Anoraks U.K.

I am truly sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Like so many others, I first heard him on Radio Nova and I also heard him on every other station mentioned by the posters - except for Q102 (I think I was out of the country at the time).

Those of us of a certain age, especially from Dublin, will really feel a void with his passing. I could not really add anything more to what has been said except this: he also did two handers with Colm Hayes, John Clarke and David Harvey. Indeed, Bob briefly reunited with Dave Harvey on Dublin's Country Mix 106.8 - the last station I heard him on.

I forgot about Christmas FM! He was to be heard in recent years, lending his vocal talents to certain items on that station, even though he had officially retired and was in the U.S. Bob certainly had not lost his broadcasting talent.

Bob is the third well know voice that Christmas FM have lost in the last year or so, along with Jim Kenny and Noel McCaul who sadly both passed away during 2012.
