Jersey maxi dress fits

I have 2 jersey maxi dresses, one black with long sleeves (from Warehouse) and the other is olive green short sleeved (Penney's). I bought both a size bigger than my own size (I'm a size 10), as I felt they are too fitted and made me look huge. I even ended up buying the green one in a size 14! I don't think they look good on me even a bit looser. They seem to make my hips look wider and my tummy is huge in them! I have worn 'control pants' under them, but I still don't feel comfortable. I just feel like although they are really comfortable material, and a maxi dress, they are just not flattering on me!

When I see them on other people, even ladies who are bigger than me, they seem to look good, but when I look in the mirror I look awful in them!
I need to buy better control pants, perhaps 'Spanx', although I can't afford them at the mo, they are not cheap!

Does anyone else find this with these types of dresses? or should only stick thin toned ladies wear them? :(

I'd personally never wear a jersey dress because they're utterly unforgiving and cling to every single lump and bump. While others might not notice, I'd never be able to relax and be comfortable in one. It might be that they're just not for you.

They don't work for me either. I think thin clingy jersey should be avoided unless you are pregnant and you need something stretchy. It fits very few people and even if does there is a chance everyone will know exactly what kind of knickers or bra you are wearing. Sometimes you can even tell the pattern of the lace.

I saw a woman recently wearing one of those dresses in cream and it was see through and she was wearing those horrid big knickers, Bridget Jones style. It wasn't a nice site.

I saw another girl wearing one yesterday and it looked great on her, it was a patterned one, she was stick thin though and quite tall to she got away with it.

I don't particularly care for those jersey dresses anyway, they are completely unflattering to most women I have seen wearing them.

A body suit - kinda looks like a swimming togs - is your best bet. I have one that I wear for things like weddings, but I have worn it on nights out under dresses, and it is quite comfortable. I find Spanx and/or control underwear quite uncomfortable and can create the "up and over" effect off all the bits that you don't want to show. But the body suit sucks stuff in, give support but doesn't feel so uncomfortable that it's unpleasent. The one I have has built in bra support and is seam free for no vpl. Most large department stores will have them (I got mine in M&S)

was thinking of getting one of those!
I know I probably shouldn't have bought the dresses, but I loved them on other people, just obviously thinner & taller than me lol
