Anyone know how much this would cost? Student return. They wont let me check cross-border fares online.

No Bus Éireann services from Thurles. AFAIK no Bus Éireann on-line fares to Northern Ireland.

    http://www.busfare.co.uk/eireann.html
    Service 12
    31.50 : Adult Single
    25.20 : Student Single
    18.90 : Child Single
    47.30 : Adult Rtn
    37.80 : Student Rtn
    28.40 : Child Return

By train, it is likely to be cheaper to travel from Roscrea. Check for internet specials though

Roscrea-Heuston is about €21 student return. Internet fare Connolly-Belfast Central is about €34 return, which is cheaper than student fare (about €42 return), but you are stuck with specific trains.

If going by train it may be worth checking the through Roscrea/Thurles to Belfast Central fare. This should also include the LUAS between Heuston and Connolly. Staff at any station ticket office will be able to look up the fare (and issue the ticket if required).
